Ingredients

  • 1 lb 450 g beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 red bell pepper sliced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper sliced
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce optional for sweet twist
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger minced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water optional, for thicker sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Equipment

  • 1 Wok or large skillet (preferably non-stick)
  • 1 cutting board
  • 1 Sharp chef’s knife
  • 1 Plate or tray to hold cooked beef
  • 1 Small bowl for sauce

Method

  1. Slice the beef thinly against the grain. Chop broccoli into florets and slice red and yellow bell peppers. Mince garlic and ginger.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce (if using), garlic, and ginger. Set aside.
  3. Place a wok or large skillet over high heat and add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Let it get hot.
  4. Add the sliced beef to the pan and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned but not fully cooked. Remove beef from the pan and set aside.
  5. Add remaining 1 tablespoon of oil, then toss in broccoli and bell peppers. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until crisp-tender.
  6. Return the beef to the pan and pour the prepared sauce over everything.
  7. If you like a thicker sauce, stir in the cornstarch-water mixture and cook for 1-2 minutes until glossy.
  8. Add salt and pepper if needed. Taste and adjust flavors as desired.
  9. Plate the stir fry beef over steamed rice, noodles, or enjoy on its own for a quick and satisfying meal.
  10. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or chopped green onions for added flavor and presentation.

Notes

  1. Prep ahead: Slice beef and chop vegetables in advance to save time.
  2. Don’t overcook veggies: Keep broccoli and bell peppers crisp for best texture.
  3. Marinate beef: A short marinade with soy sauce and cornstarch keeps the beef tender.
  4. High heat cooking: Use a hot skillet or wok and avoid overcrowding the pan for even browning.
  5. Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days & reheat gently.
